Prayer That Changes Things
What if I told you that you were missing one key ingredient to prayer that changes things? We all want to pray like the great men and women of the Bible. We all want to pray even like Jesus Himself did! So, what is this missing ingredient to prayer that changes things?
One of the great prayer warriors in the Bible was a man by the name of Daniel. Daniel was a man of prayer. In Daniel 6:10, we read that Daniel prayed 3 times a day! Wow… In Daniel’s life, we see that God spares him from the den of lions, places him before kings, and gives him tremendous favor like no other. God showed Daniel great mysteries and gave him great wisdom and understanding. It seemed as if anything Daniel asked for, God answered and gave him exactly what he needed.
What made Daniel’s prayers so powerful? Was it how long he prayed? Was it how loud he prayed? Or even how quiet he prayed? What was the key to Daniel’s prayer life?
It was his persistence in prayer. In Luke 18, we read about the persistent widow constantly going before the king for justice. Finally, the king (out of annoyance) gives the woman justice. Jesus then says,
"Don’t you know that God, the true judge, will grant justice to all his chosen ones who cry out to him night and day? He will pour out his Spirit upon them. He will not delay to answer you and give you what you ask for.” (Luke 18:7)
Persistence is the key to prayer that changes things. It’s not about how long you pray but more about how often you pray. Smith Wigglesworth once said,
“I don’t pray longer than 30 minutes but I don’t go 30 minutes without praying.”
It’s not about how loud you pray. You don’t need to beg God. He’s probably already heard you! It’s not about how quiet you pray. It’s not the quietest—or even the loudest prayer—that catches the attention of our Father. But it’s persistence in prayer that catches His attention. Jesus continues on to say in Luke 18:8,
“However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find [this kind of persistent] faith on the earth?” (AMP)
Persistence is the key to prayer that changes things. Don’t give up, don’t grow weary. But pray without ceasing, knowing that there is a God in heaven who hears us.
